Charity poker events have been a tried and true way of raising money for good causes over the past couple of decades, and one in California got an extremely famous participant on Sunday night. Social media and reality television influencer Kim Kardashian West recently staked physical Bitcoin at a charity poker game in Los Angeles on Sunday. According to screen grabs of the Instagram story, Kardashian West moved from staking thousands via normal poker chips to staking physical Bitcoin, which likely represented some form of cold wallet storage. One common caption, for instance, is, “Whenever you feel like a moron, just remember that Kim Kardashian played poker with mirrored sunglasses.” This is a genuine photograph of the reality. Kim Kardashian, poker and the fact-checking website Snopes.com all converged into an interesting little story after the reality TV star was pictured wearing mirror sunglasses at the poker table…

Kardashian’s poker appearance came last year at the ‘If Only’ charity poker event in California, and the subsequent level of sarcasm and typically nasty social media nasty humour aimed at the media personality was to be expected.

However, when Snopes.com got in on the act, it showed that she was far from the only one to don reflective eyewear at the table…

Of course Phil Laak is known for his rather unusual taste in all sorts of fashion, but Snopes dug out versions of 2013 and 2017 WSOP Main Event champs Chris Moneymaker and Qui Nguyen all kitted out in the mirrored shades.

The joke, if it needs to be spelled out, is wearing mirrored glasses will allow your opponents to see your cards when you look at them – and therefore one of the dumbest thing you can do - but if it’s good enough for the legendary pros named above, then perhaps we can give Kardashian a pass on this one?

Reality TV superstar Kim Kardashian West made an appearance at 'If Only,' a charity poker tournament held at The Forum in Inglewood. If Only raised money to benefit City of Hope, a cancer-focused, non-profit research center and hospital. Learn more about City of Hope here.

The event, which also featured raffles and high-dollar food and drinks, will reportedly be featured on a future episode of the hit show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Kardashian West documented the night on her Instagram, showing off pictures of eclectic stacks of poker chips.

Prizes available included VIP access for four to an Eagles concert at The Forum, VIP access for four to Fleetwood Mac at The Forum, and custom-fitted Callaway golf clubs and special jewelry.

Furthermore, the poker felt wasn't the only thing Kardashian West featured on her much-followed Instagram account that poker players will recognize. According to CoinTelegraph, she also flaunted some Bitcoin fluency as well.

Kardashian West was apparently given her first Bitcoin by a cryptocurrency enthusiast who attended the event. She posed for a photo with a physical representation of a Bitcoin — that such an idea goes against the very notion of Bitcoin notwithstanding. She then appeared to put it at risk in the poker game, though CoinTelegraph didn't report whether she managed to hang on to it.

Given her reported net worth of $350 million, she'll likely be fine either way.
